Framing statement A:

Learning Outcome One

Learning outcome one states: Students who complete English 110 should be able to demonstrate the ability to approach writing as a recursive process that requires substantial revision of drafts for content, organization, and clarity (global revision), as well as editing and proofreading (local revision).

All through my life I had been taught to write a paper, add a few things, and always check for grammar errors. Never had I really been taught anything about global revisions. I learned a lot about them in this class. In Sommer’s selection she states, “students solve the immediate problem, but blind themselves to problems on a textual level”. This is something that before this class, I definitely used to do. Now that I have learned many new terms and grasped a better understanding, I feel that I can look at my work and look for more global and holistic revisions. I decided that I wanted to be the type of writer that was open minded and ready for feedback to improve my writing. I wanted to be able to look at the bigger picture rather than just the small surface errors. Sommer’s states, “Two elements of the experienced writers’ theory of the revision process are the adoption of a holistic perspective and the perception that revision is a recursive process”. This is something that I feel I fit in with now. I am open and accepting to holistic changes and I look at revision in a new recursive way. As I continue to revise, I will continue practicing my new techniques and mindsets to succeed.

Example: “ All of these customer-driven ads are good and helpful, but only to a point. Big Data is a tool that mostly will help companies grow and spread rather than to help the customers. Social media allows for fast access, and spreads like wildfire. Kelsey included that as of 2016, Facebook is the most browser-based social media platform that receives the most visits across PC and mobile combine (ctd. in Kelsey, 10). Companies use this to their benefit and create pages on platforms that big data tells them people use most. The more viewers, the more business and the better that company benefits.  Yes, these products may be beneficial to us, but are they products we actually need?  If technology is making conclusions about us based on what we search and like, how much else does it actually know and collect about us?”

This example shows that I was open minded to feedback and completely changed examples and meanings of the entire paragraph. I added questions that will relate back to the reader to have them critically think about how they personally can fit into this topic. I incorporated statistics and my own ideas to make sure the reader feels what they are reading is clear and understandable.
