110 SM Integrating Sources

My strategy with incorporating sources consisted of using them to support my claims as evidence and to make clear what claims I was trying to portray. I used many examples from all four sources to connect to my claims, own personal experiences, and text-to-text connections. I used direct quotes, ideas, and paraphrased things to make my paper credible and strong when trying to get my claims across to the reader. I applied the suggestions from the sources I have to make clearer connections, have a better structure with what I was writing, and to integrate all of the sources into my essay.

This is a sample paragraph from my essay that shows my integration of text-to-text connections.

Some people feel that these platforms can lead to less personal and intimate connections. Actually hearing someone’s voice, having eye contact, and physical touch are all things that you lack when you communicate with people online. Communication skills are being diminished by the dependency of technology. People will read a post and take it as it is directed toward them, or will read a message from a friend that they read wrong, and feel that person is angry or upset with them. Both boyd and Greenfield share similar opinions to this. Greenfield exclaims, “Someone who posts a picture of chocolate cake without any meaningful accompanying explanation leaves it up to her audience of ‘friends’ to infer what they will” (114).  Boyd says, “ Some expect their friends and family to understand and respect different social contexts and to know when something is not meant for them. And yet there are always people who fail to recognize when content isn’t meant for them” (34). These go to explain how if someone posts something, their audience is lead to interpret that post the way they will and how they want. Greenfield’s theory of misinterpretations is extremely useful because it sheds light on the very relevant issue that teens are experiencing with taking posts and texts the wrong way. I have had encounters where I thought one of my friends had posted something about me online, but in reality, had nothing to do with me. I have also had conversations through texting with people where they read something the wrong way, and thought I was angry or upset with them. Texting and posts can lead to many interpretations and it all depends on how the viewer takes it. This leads for someone as the account profile ‘runner’, to have to think about the consequences a post can actually create. Not everyone has the same thought process, so by being cautious and smart with posts, these issues can work toward being avoided.  “
