In Susan Greenfield’s piece, “Mind Change”, she states many different ideas and claims.  Greenfield’s theory of “best self” is extremely relevant because it sheds light on the difficult problem of how people promote themselves on the internet. Social media today is filled with profiles upon profiles. Most of the time you don’t even know the real from the fake.  Greenfield goes on to explain how people are posting things for their audience. She refers to Canadian sociologist, Erving Goffman, and describes how he thinks humans are always on alert to see reactions of others based on what they do personally. Greenfield then goes on to state that, “the online self is likely to be an exaggerated version of the real self” (117). I agree with these statement in regards that I can see this issue in my own life. People post things that will get them the most attention and the most ‘likes’. Overall, I believe that this theory is very important to explore, especially now with social media taking up more and more of people’s lives.
