In the Ted Talk, “Connected, but Alone?”, Sherry Turkle’s argues that technology is corrupting our social skills. She describes how we are looking for companionships but instead of reaching out to other humans, we are reaching out to robots to fill that ‘loneliness’. She advocates that we should be dedicating our time trying to use technology for the greater good rather than for how people are using it today. She wraps up her talk by stating that we need to be using technology, in the many ways it can be used, to, in the end, bring us back to reality. Cell phones may lead to instant gratification, but we shouldn’t be seeking that. She feels we as humans, need to real ourselves back in and start making face to face connections and conversations before we forget how.
